Wow, what a month May turned out to be. When we got home from our girls trip to Texas I thought I would update the blog once a week to keep you all in the loop on Alex’s activity and therapy. Obviously that did not happen. Somehow it is now June and we are heading back to Texas in a week for her to receive her prosthesis and have her first week of therapy with her leg. We are all looking forward to this trip. All six of these children have kept us hopping between finishing our school year, baseball for Alex at Miracle Fields, end of year dance recitals, and first pair of pointe shoes for LaRue, Ethan working any odd job he can get his hands on since he is saving to be able to purchase a truck when he turns 16 in July while finishing his school year. Kyle turned 12 and had an airsoft party with some friends. Paul and Boone just as active as ever in their daily lives.

The gardens were planted, tea herbs beginning to come in and being harvested and used for teas now and also dried for the winter stash. Alex, Boone, and Paul especially enjoy helping me forage for herbs. We have a good time learning what is growing in the yard and all the wonderful ways to use them. We added bunnies and baby chicks to our mini farm. The kids are enjoying all of these new additions.

God has blessed us with several friends who are amputees who have taken Alex and our family under wing and been a huge encouragement to us.

We made it to the river for a kayaking day with friends one Sunday afternoon. This was one of the adventures on Alex’s post surgery bucket list and the whole family agreed. It was an incredibly fun day on the water.

Kyle and Paul were able to go with a couple cousins to camp at Ridge Haven last week. LaRue participated in a horsemanship camp with a friend, and Ethan stayed home to work while the other two and I spent the week in SC with family. It was a fun week with Aunts, Uncles, cousins, second cousins, and first cousins once removed! Yes, we had some family tree lessons and my children looked at me like I was a little crazy as I tried to explain. Maybe I will try again in a few years. Strawberry picking and the fruit of the spirit lessons with song were definitely highlights for the kiddos. Really proud of all the campers for their hard work to raise the money they needed to be able to attend. They have been saving for months. These kids are hard workers.

Brent and I are getting a few much cherished days away together for our 18th anniversary. Where does the time go? Thanks to my parents, siblings, friends for taking a part in the kid watching and shuffle to allow us to make this little trip. We are so very appreciative.

Sunday we head back to Texas for two weeks. It’s a family trip this time. Everyone wanted to be there for these first next steps to cheer Alex on! On the 14th of June she will meet with the prosthetist and get her leg. Each day that week she will have a PT appointment using the leg. The next week they will be putting the final touches and adjustments on the leg. Instead of driving home Saturday only to return the following Thursday we have decided to stay in the area and have some family time to celebrate the end of this surgery season. We will pick up Alex’s prosthesis the following week and return home with it. She has not picked the fabric that she wants so we have to go to the fabric store this week and let her choose her pattern. I expect this is going to take some time for her to choose but we shall see. She may surprise me!

Please continue to pray as we travel, As Alex makes this next huge step. Pray that she is able to adjust to this new leg and that we are able to help her learn to communicate her needs and discomfort where it is concerned so we are able to know how to help her as she adjusts. Thank you for continuing to encourage and support us through this journey.

For those who have asked how they can help with this next round of travel below is the link to the gofundme.

What a fun couple of months. My dad is an amputee, though his arm. We tease him about being Captain Hook (though he's a colonel).
