This photo is Paul, so excited for his sister. He is her protector and friend.

Alex ran to her prosthetics appointment this morning. I could hardly keep up!

How are we here? What a whirlwind of everything in getting here. As we keep saying God has blessed us in so many ways and over and over again we have heard him say, “be still, be patient, my plan is even better than what you imagine”. And time and time again this has proven true. Tonight as we had our devotions we thanked the kids for their roles in this journey and expressed how grateful we are for their willingness to walk this road as a family even though it meant so many changes and sacrifices for each of them and for what we knew as normal. It was sweet and led to them sharing some of the sweetness they have found through the challenges. Some of those things were thankfulness for family and friends to love on and care for them when we were absent. Christmas at home together because of the pain of another canceled surgery. Much more time together as a family. The fun and sometimes struggle of learning to adjust and still have fun together when we couldn’t do many of the things we had enjoyed in the past. If you had given me the story of this last couple years in our life before it happened I can’t imagine I would have seen any beauty or blessings in it. I would likely have just seen fear and heartache. This is how good and great God is. So many, many blessings throughout. We really can’t thank enough everyone who has helped get us here.

So today was the day. We left home yesterday morning at 7:30 am and after detours to avoid wrecks, sitting in traffic for construction, and a couple other stops we finally arrived at 10 pm, exhausted but happy to be in Dallas. This morning began with Alex’s first appointment at 9 am. Alex did beautifully through the four hours of appointments today. She was anxious at first because she didn’t know if it would hurt or if it would feel weird. She has gotten more upset about things feeling weird than she has about hurts.

It was a process to get the leg just right but so worth it because when she took those first assisted steps she was excited and ready to give it a try. The prosthetist was great and patient with her and made sure everything was perfect and comfortable. As we expected she was timid with those first steps but no more timid than her first steps after a fracture or new brace. She continues to shock everyone with her attitude and determination.

The best part of the day was after getting the prosthesis ready and making sure it was lined up, having lunch, and starting her PT appointment her therapist walked her downstairs so she could show her eagerly waiting Family her new leg and her first next steps! This place is incredible. The staff is incredible. They go out of their way to make the things that are important happen whenever they can and she knew the family being together for those steps were so important. What a joy! To see Alex walk out to her waiting family with a huge smile on her face and they smiling from ear to ear as well. Overwhelmed with joy and tears. The leg had to be left at the end of the appointment to have a few more adjustments made and she will get to use it again tomorrow. She was sad to have to leave it there. She can’t wait for it to be hers for good.

After all of that waking with her new leg Alex was exhausted but not ready for sleep just a change of pace. We headed to the pool and they wore themselves out some more. But of course never really wear out! 😄😄

It’s all in a days work and play!! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds. Videos are difficult to post here so until I get that done if you want to see video of her walking she has an Instagram account for people to follow her journey. It is Alex_fearfullywonderfullymade.
