I haven’t posted today because it has been a busy, wonderful, challenging, adjustment kind of day. Just three and a half mostly peaceful days after a complex rotationplasty, having part of her leg removed, her tibia reshaped and sewn into the hip socket to become her new femur and knee, she was released from the hospital. Wow, God Is good and your many, many prayers up to this point have been answered.

Since I never got an update done last night or this morning I will tell you we finished yesterday smoothly, she slept really well last night, only waking for meds and going back to sleep, and then we started today the same way. We made it back to the basketball court last night before dark. We played ball, drew with chalk, played putt putt, handball, baseball and bubbles. A sweet lady from Park City Pres dropped off some items for us to play with outside after seeing that she was able to go out. All of it was greatly enjoyed. After over an hour we kissed Daddy goodnight and headed back inside for our girls night. We were missing our other girl, LaRue, and Alex is already planning the perfect girls night when we are back together. We watched a movie, built legos and snuggled. It was a good way to end our hospital stay adventure. Legos have quickly become her favorite thing to do while she is on her back. She loves that she is now able to build the sets himself and then she enjoys playing with The characters after the set it built.
Alex did really well through all of the final visits from doctors today. She especially enjoyed her visit with Dr. Johnson and getting one more hug and the Neurologist, Dr. Christie, who let her try out the tuning fork. Alex thought it was so cool and had lots of questions about how it worked. It was a science lesson!! In the last 30 minutes of packing up, filling prescriptions, and getting out the door she had a bit of a meltdown. Getting dressed and into the car seat harness caused some frustration but It didn’t last long. Once we got her to the car she calmed down and the rest of the day was great.
Before the meltdown she enjoyed one final visit with her new friend, Mr. David and he helped us get her and her things to the car. She will miss his high fives and fist bumps.
We made it to the condo and got her settled in and then she said all she wanted to do was go on a walk to the park to swing. We told her we weren’t sure if we could swing but we could definitely take a walk. She was super excited so off we went! I probably shouldn’t be surprised at this girl but somehow she continues to amaze me. When we figured out how to get her situated in the swing and got her swinging she might have been the happiest kid alive. She kept closing her eyes and saying she was resting and peaceful! She was in the swing for a looong time and did not want to get out when we told her we really needed to head back and eat dinner.

So many times today we have looked at Alex and said, didn’t you just have surgery a couple days ago? Because of how well she is doing it kind of feels like a dream. Not a dream that it happened but that it just happened a few days ago. So proud of her go get em personality and refusal to give up. I most love the way she is so thankful. She wants to pray often and thanks Jesus for her new leg, for her doctors who gave her the new leg, and for all the people who prayed for her. She is such an encouragement to us.
This silly girl saw her old brace when she got back from the hospital and she referred to it as her enemy. This is what happened next.
This girl is keeping us laughing. We were able to FaceTime with the kids and grands in TN and enjoyed our chat.

They are such sweet and encouraging brothers and sister. They were so happy to see her out of the hospital, excited with her about her new backward foot, and cheered for her as she wiggled and stretched it. They are her biggest cheer leaders for sure. They even had a celebration there for her while we had one here. It’s these little things that make us feel like we are still so connected to those at home. It’s extremely hard to be away from them for so long but I’m thankful for these opportunities. LaRue even made a gorgeous celebration cake for Alex’s bust out day!! 🥳🥳 Definitely hard to see this cake and not get to try some. It has raspberry purée on top!
Today Alex was asked if she was enjoying being an only child? She quickly responded with, NO! The follow up question was, would you rather have your brothers and sister here to bother you? Again, quickly she firmly said, they would never do that to me!!! Hahaha! How quickly she forgets the picking and I’m thankful. It means that the sweet times my children have together and love for one another really is what they remember in the end!

Please continue to pray for healing, that there would not be any infections, that she would continue to regain her energy and strength, and continue time sleep better each night. Pray that she is able to easily taper down off her pain management without any trouble. Pray for the other kids back home as they want to be here and are patient in waiting until they are able to come visit! Pray for their sweet grandparents who are giving so much of themselves and taking such great care of these children.
They have had a great time with cousins and friends. They went bowling on surgery day, have been keeping up with their schooling, having cousin and friend sleep overs and even going on little out of town cousin visits!
GOOD NIGHT!!
Such great news and a beautiful family.
Praise God for all of it!
